UMAP GHANA

The University of Missouri Assistance Program-Ghana (UMAP-Ghana) is a Ghana-based International Non-Governmental Organization founded since 2013. UMAP-Ghana is staffed and managed by Ghanaians and has an active Board of Directors drawn from academia, research and experienced international development experts and is a key development partner of the University of Missouri (UM), Columbia USA.

UMAP-Ghana’s vision and mission is: “is to facilitate the integration of research for development into development programming for a rapid socio-economic development of Africa”.

WHAT WE DO, WHERE WE WORK AND KEY PARTNERS

At UMAP-Ghana we design, manage and facilitate socio-economic and agricultural development programs to address challenges posed by the bulging youth populations across Africa.

Our agricultural livelihoods projects promote agriculture as a business and facilitate modernized commercial farming throughout the entire value chain. We support individuals and Farmer Business Organizations (FBOs) to transition from subsistence agriculture to a sustainable, and economically viable market-oriented systems approach. UMAP-Ghana and our partners develop agricultural education and training modules and curricular for both formal institutions and informal structures and deliver gender sensitive technical and vocational skills trainings with a focus on entrepreneurship and agribusiness and improved extension service delivery to the last mile.

In our trade capacity building programs, we work with the African Regional Economic Communities to facilitate agricultural trade capacity building that supports the elimination of non-tariff barriers using science-based regulatory frameworks including those for risk management in food safety, sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) standards/requirements and pesticide regulation harmonization across Africa.
