UMAP-Ghana Spearheads Collaborative Efforts to Strengthen African Regional Economic Communities

UMAP-Ghana, a prominent Ghana-based International Non-Governmental Organization, has taken the lead in strengthening African Regional Economic Communities (RECs) through its collaborative efforts. This initiative aims to foster economic integration, promote intra-regional trade, and enhance sustainable development across the African continent.

With an active Board of Directors comprising academia, research, and experienced international development experts, UMAP-Ghana has been instrumental in driving positive change through partnerships and knowledge-sharing among various RECs. By leveraging its expertise and resources, the organization has played a pivotal role in advancing regional economic integration in Africa.

One of the key achievements of UMAP-Ghana’s collaborative efforts is the facilitation of agricultural trade capacity building within the RECs. By supporting the elimination of non-tariff barriers and promoting science-based regulatory frameworks, UMAP-Ghana has contributed significantly to enhancing agricultural trade across the continent. This will not only boost economic growth but also improv food security in numerous African nations.

Moreover, UMAP-Ghana’s proactive engagement with the RECs has resulted in the harmonization of sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) standards/requirements and pesticide regulations. By aligning these regulations, UMAP-Ghana is helping to create a conducive environment for farmers and agribusinesses to operate seamlessly within the region. This harmonization processes will not only facilitate trade but also ensure the safety and quality of agricultural produce, benefitting both producers and consumers.

The success of UMAP-Ghana’s collaborative efforts can be attributed to its strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including governments, regional organizations, and international development agencies. By leveraging these partnerships, UMAP-Ghana has been able to pool together resources, expertise, and knowledge, resulting in impactful and sustainable outcomes.

Mawuli Asigbee, Director of UMAP-Ghana, emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing regional economic integration. He stated, “UMAP-Ghana firmly believes that by working together, we can overcome the challenges hindering Africa’s economic progress. Our collaborative efforts with the RECs aim to create a conducive environment for trade, investment, and sustainable development across the continent.”

UMAP-Ghana’s collaborative efforts have not only garnered recognition but have also inspired other organizations and stakeholders to join forces in strengthening African RECs. The organization’s commitment to promoting regional economic integration continues to make a significant impact, paving the way for a prosperous and united Africa.

As UMAP-Ghana continues its collaborative efforts, the organization remains committed to driving sustainable development, promoting intra-regional trade, and fostering economic integration within African Regional Economic Communities. Through its strategic partnerships and innovative initiatives, UMAP-Ghana is poised to contribute further to Africa’s economic growth and development.
